One of our mainstay record stores in Chicago is Dusty Groove 1120 N. Ashland (one block South of Division). It’s been awhile since we released any new material on CD but they were gracious and excited to hear the new direction that ASCENDANT was going in. This is their review:

Spiritual soul from Ascendant – a brilliant little EP that’s the greatest thing they’ve done so far! The sound is sublimely righteous – set to some soaring jazzy backdrops that make the vocals sound really wonderful, and which really help get across the message in the music – a blend that’s maybe the best approach to this sort of groove we’ve heard since vintage work from Fertile Ground! The set’s only an EP, but it’s got a very powerful feel – put together perfectly, with vocals that are right on the money, especially in the harmony passages – and timeless instrumentation that will have us coming back to this one again and again over the years.

Record stores are a dying breed. It’s a shame really because the experience of walking into a store and perusing all the music cannot be matched by any “download store” on the web. To pick up a CD/LP in your hands and take in the artwork…

If you’re in Chicago stop by there and take in the atmosphere. They’ve got great music in that store. While you’re there don’t forget to pick up that little blue disc from a certain band…
